After assessments on Saturday, the NSW Rural Fire Service said the South Coast is 'open for business.'

Tourists are being welcomed back to the NSW South Coast after authorities said the worst of the extreme weather had passed.

The popular tourist destination has been virtually closed to visitors after a"leave zone" was introduced days after fires destroyed several towns on New Year's Eve."Our very strong message to future visitors is to keep us in your thoughts over the coming weeks and months as you plan your holidays," Bega Valley Shire's Daniel Murphy said in a statement.

SOUTH COAST OPEN FOR BUSINESS After assessments today, it has been decided that visitors may now return to areas of the Shoalhaven & South Coast. People wishing to take advantage of the tourist areas are advised to contact their destination before setting off.

Why was the evacuation notice for the region only given on 02DEC20 when the firestorm hit midday 31DEC19 in urban areas on the south coast? Percieved economic benenfit for the region ahead of safety of tourists / residents ? NotATimeForKneeJerkReactions ?

I wonder what could have been achieved, lives and property saved had Prime Minister Scott Morrison met with the retired Fire fighters in April 2019 to discuss the coming crisis. Prevention is always better than the cure.

The Climate Crisis has irreparably damaged tourism in these areas.
