Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has defended the ban on travellers from mainland China amid the coronavirus outbreak but admits the move will have a 'negative' economic effect. 9News

Hubei's provincial capital of Wuhan, where the virus is thought to have originated, reported 894 new confirmed cases on February 1 and 32 new deaths.Advanced screening and reception arrangements are being put in place at major airports. There are also new arrangements for airports including the provision of protective masks and thermometers.

Mr Dutton said the number of foreign citizens flying into one major Australian gateway city last had been reduced to a few hundred. And he said officials are working with airlines and contacting Australian citizens on the China mainland.Advanced screening and reception arrangements are being put in place at major Australian airports.
