Facebook messages associated with the protest said the tracks will reopen when the RCMP leave Wet’suwet’en territory

High-volume passenger and freight train travel between Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa is at a standstill Friday during a solidarity protest for opponents of a natural gas pipeline being built through Wet’suwet’en territory in northern British Columbia.

VIA passenger service on the Ottawa/Montreal to Toronto and Toronto to Ottawa/Montreal routes have been cancelled. Passengers on board any of the trains blocked en route Thursday were offered to either get off at the station where the train stopped or return to their station of origin. This is brutal they should be thrown in jail!!

Cut off their funding.

What I don’t understand is, why has CNRailway not built tracks to circumnavigate the Tyendinaga nation - this situation happened at least twice while I lived in Ottawa and resulted in not being able to take VIA rail home to Toronto at the time.. Happens every few years or so

So more people will drive, which requires more gas, which requires more oil to shipped which hurts the environment. Causing more oil to shipped by rail putting us in line for more derailments. I think there is a flaw in their actions.

who cares lets grind the whole country to a halt ... held hostage by a small group of paid protesters who seem to be able to sit on train tracks, at protest camps for indefinite amounts of time... so paid terrorists or unemployed grifters ...who pays for this crap

Trudeau is in Africa, he's not even around to deal with this or Norovirus quarantine in Trenton.

I want to travel to Toronto in 2 weeks to visit my granddaughters. I will be heartbroken if I can’t go. It’s not fair to those of us who depend on Via.

Arrest them. They are just trying to extort more $$$ from the taxpayers. Extortion is a major crime!

This is ridiculous. Elected Chiefs have signed this deal so that their people can have better lives and these unelected self appointed Hereditary Chiefs are blocking this. They are breaking the law and hurting their own people.

Who will enforce the law?

Arrest the fools, or is Canada now a country where criminals have more rights than citizens.

Those people should be arrested

And our governments won't do ANYTHING to put and end to this and other similar disruptions to the lives of the 95% of Canadians who aren't indigenous. Governments are terrified that intervening in one of these protests will result in another Ipperwash.

Isn’t that illegal?

Why bother having a national police force like the RCMP, provincial police when both sit on their hands not arresting and removing protesters from blocking rail lines.

Arrest them. If I did it I would t know what hit me? Why the double standard?

Police helpless to act.

Must be nice to live off te tax payers and not care who they inconvenience. Like liberals ... they think money and the economy balance themselves.

This will make people very sympathetic to their cause...
