GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Tourist Guides Association (PTGA) is seeking the government’s help to get Malaysians to go on domestic holidays in view of the Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak.

PTGA president Chin Poh Chin said tourism players including airlines and hotels could also offer discounts to Malaysians to explore the country instead of travelling abroad.

She said promoting the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia packages would help cushion the effects of the outbreak felt by all the tourism industry players.“Encouraging Malaysians to go on holidays locally will not only help sustain our tourism industry but also help keep the money floating within our country,” she said after a gathering of PTGA members at the Esplanade here.

Chin claimed that the industry was more badly hit now compared to the time during the SARS outbreak in 2003.
