GEORGE TOWN: With no sign of the Covid-19 viral outbreak easing soon, Penang is beginning to face the heat of losses in tourism.

Penang Malaysian Association of Hotels chairman Khoo Boo Lim said the state was currently looking at RM4mil to RM5mil in revenue loss from room cancellations alone.

“We are having a challenge in getting the right figures but we managed to get several hotels to participate, ” he said. MAH had said on Monday that a series of proposals ranging from economic stimuli to cash flow support and assistance for the hotel and tourism industry was presented during the three-hour meeting with both ministries.

MAH chief executive officer Yap Lin Seng said he hoped the ministries would accept the ideas, particularly on easing industry stakeholders’ cash flow constraints.
