PUTRAJAYA: There are 841 Malaysians who are stranded in 20 countries following the enforcement of control regulations or travel bans by the countries to curb the spread of Covid-19, says Wisma Putra.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaafar said the country with the highest number of Malaysians stranded abroad is India with 274, followed by Uzbekistan and Morocco .

"Our stranded citizens have been given consular assistance by our missions in the respective countries. "This includes temporary accommodation, providing them with alternative flights and other forms of assistance," he said on Wednesday . Kamarudin, who chairs the Foreign Ministry task force on Covid-19, said that Malaysian embassies had also successfully helped 116 of its citizens to return home."The movement control order does not prevent Malaysians abroad from entering the country throughout the 14-day period.

"We urge Malaysians who are stranded to remain calm and contact the embassy. They are also advised to take precautionary measures to prevent from being infected by Covid-19," he said.Here is the breakdown of the number of Malaysians stranded, by country:
