The number of people visiting Australia has dropped by more than half in the largest ever recorded fall, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics .The largest decrease was in visitors from China, followed by Japan and MalaysiaOverseas visitor arrivals fell by 60 per cent in March, compared to the same month in 2019, with every state and territory recording dramatic falls.
ABS director of migration statistics Jenny Dobak said the decreases reflected the implementation of the Federal Government's travel restrictions,"In March 2020, there were 331,900 visitors who had arrived for a short-term trip compared to 836,300 12 months earlier," Ms Dobak said.
