The head of the trade association for airlines hopes that air travel will resume in Europe by the summer, and strongly opposes mandatory quarantine periods.

The comments from IATA come as travel groups are desperate to bring operations back to life and some are already rolling out plans to do so.

"We think that it is useless provided we have implemented the health and sanitary controls that we are discussing with governments. It is absolutely key for the tourist industry which is so important for so many countries in Europe." "Is it possible to have an aircraft full and without risk of contamination? Our answer is yes," de Juniac said, "provided we implement control and sanitary processes for passengers just before the flight — by asking for temperature control, by the obligation to wear a mask, by cleaning the aircraft properly and disinfecting properly, by limiting the distribution of food to pre-packaged food, by limiting cabin luggage to one luggage to avoid disembarking and embarking process to...

He added that air filters in planes ensure safe ventilation, that sitting behind seat backs rather than face-to-face with other passengers reduces droplet spread, and that mandatory masks will further reduce contamination.

IATA If we open the states and let people out of their homes and stop the mandatory 14day quarantines & tracking of them when they arrive...they will travel again. More flights are full on open state routes right now, hopefully it continues. People miss their extended families.

Maybe as long as 2028-2032....

I don’t buy that.

Still there is quite a big market in terms of domestic flights and international cargo transportation. They can bet on this two areas in post crisis.

Poulin2012 Maybe never

IATA Good. Let the airlines go bust. They offer dreadful service anyway.

IATA IATA if you union the opnion to all countries to open near to each airport covid-19 test to go by car and any one has a flight can go and test himself 24 hours before flight and get the result through mobile and this like a passport can enter any country will help the industry.

I don't think so. Their opinion always is too pessimistic. Let's see.

These articles are meaningless since no one knows what will happen in 30 days. Let alone 3 years!

Next summer

It may take longer than that with technology improving for business communication but time will tell.

One of those airlines going out of business

Stop writing these stupid articles

plenty of time to fix the Max unless of course Boeing goes bye bye.

Bullshit. Stop fear mongering to try to help your short positions

Ummmm, will there be an airline industry left by then?

Bye bye SpiritAirlines

At least a year after a vaccine that works.

Good

Or never

they must be optimistic - frankly i don't ever see it returning to pre Covid levels

How expensive will air travel be after the Covid-19 crisis?Airfares will continue to respond to supply and demand, but the possibility of tourism promotions or the need to buy social distance on planes are emerging — provisionally, at least — as forces destined to push prices a little lower, or a little higher. The airlines must test passengers and crew prior to flights along with sanitizing the planes and mask wearing. Good money spent would be on refining 10 minute tests and reducing costs. Don’t think large numbers will fly until we feel safe. Couple of these airlines are definitely gonna go under. And hope govt doesn't bail them out Oh I ain't gonna be flying anytime soon.
