Deeply rural areas of the Eastern Cape where patients have to travel on foot or transported on wheelbarrows to access care is where the newly unveiled medical motorbikes will be utilised, says the health ministry.

Acknowledging this, the health ministry said in a statement,"We have received backlash from the public."health personnel doing field work and home visits and are not intended to replace ambulances, it explained.

"These are motorbikes that are designed for off-road capabilities and the intention is for these units to be able to transport patients to the nearest clinic." he motorbikes can be ridden by two community health workers to carry out tasks such as Covid-19 screening in deep rural areas and general health screening and testing for other communicable diseases such as TB and HIV as well as non-communicable disease like diabetes and hypertension. They can also be used to deliver medicines.

"It is proven that when health workers are visible in the community and bring preventative healthcare into the home, this reduces the burden on health care facilities and ultimately saves people from disability due to ill health or death due to uncontrolled chronic disease.Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba said at the launch of the project the motorbikes were being introduced"

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Would love to see the tender for this one 😀😀😀

I'm not against this idea. People in deep rural areas cannot get medical help in time. If this works it might just save lives. No, I'm not saying it's a solution to all the problems.

From 1914 to 1918 in world war 1 the same ambulances where used. All thanks to ANC for bringing it back in 2020 after 100 years

These motorbikes should be reserved to transport only ministers.

They must fix bad roads finish and klaar

In Kenya if im not mistaken they use tricycles that can carry patients. At last people in deep rural areas and informal settlements who have no access to roads and hospitals can now receive health care. We need solutions that will address our daily challenges.

So like a single cab 4x4 bakkie with a “patient transport” back cannot go where these scooters go?

What an insult to our intelligence. In their desperation to spend in order to create looting opportunities, this is what they come up with. This is DISRESPECT🤬

4IR championed by pensioners or domkops

Seems to be a thoughtful initiative for the poor people but government once again acts without any Intel or long term thinking! The near future will prove this to be either successful or a fail as the reasons provided don't justify the means! Likely a fail considering the areas..

Last used in the West in world war 2

Prambulances what a joke to the dignity of the people..And why not get a permanent solution to the problem like fixing the road.Think guys think.Jirrr
