Lord Howe Island will remain closed to visitors until the beginning of August.

, Lord Howe Island off the coast of Port Macquarie in New South Wales will stay shut to visitors until August 3.There are calls for testing on the island so locals can visit the mainland without going into quarantine on their return

The board's CEO, Peter Adams, said since March 22 travel to the World-Heritage-Listed island has been restricted and anyone arriving has had to quarantine. "They have literally been stuck on the island, so I think it is more locals trying to get off as opposed to bringing extra people in for tourism at the moment.

"I think that would have been a better scenario for the community as opposed to just going for a complete blanket ban again.
