An extra £85m has been announced by the Treasury to provide emergency accommodation for 5,400 rough sleepers who have been placed in hotels in England for the duration of the pandemic, avoiding them having to return to the streets when the hotels reopen to the public this summer.

Credit where it’s due. Here’s one thing the Government has got right during this pandemic. Even if I suspect the motives are to stop homeless spreading virus rather than any true altruistic principle.

A small positive step
Strange as the Homeless were being housed (were being pertinent AndyBurnhamGM ) but have now been abandoned again & are back to sleeping rough on the streets in the same numbers as before. If only Manchester had a Mayor or someone to stand up for then inbetween Lodge meetings
And she's talking about all the Illegal immigrants that they've been bringing in from the channel, not the real rough sleepers.
When awarding any contracts to landlords, Cummings will have to strike a careful balance between the big Tory donors and his family & friends.

‘Rough sleeper accommodation’ already exists as a concept. Why does the Guardian pretend that if you sleep rough you’ve no options and this money is something new? We’ve a welfare state. We have an emergency housing scheme. This is basically just a welfare state boost.
Just fucking get houses for people. They're our kin. They don't need much.
I thought there was no magic money tree ? Seems like we could always help the homeless, but they chose not to? Surprise
