The domestic aviation industry faces a “catastrophic future” if the Federal Government keeps the Australia’s borders closed for an extended period, according to News Corp aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas. Outgoing Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy has warned Australia's international borders are unlikely to fully reopen until a vaccine is found for COVID-19, which could be years away.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has announced the group will axe 6,000 staff on top of 15,000 employees who were already stood down amid the coronavirus crisis. In addition to 6,000 job cuts and 15,000 people stood down, Qantas will also ground up to 100 planes for 12 months. Does your so called aviation expert know that dead people don't fly?

Yes let’s reopen the borders so the airline industry can make $, dont worry about the infections, lockdowns and deaths that will result !

Surely there can be a tiered approach to opening the borders. At least let Australian citizens out and back in as an interim step. Some of us want to travel not for tourism but to see loved ones overseas. LoveIsNotTourism

We face a catastrophic health future if the Federal Government doesn’t keep our borders under strict control. We keep getting return travellers with positive COVID-19 readings, and now even flight crews are contracting COVID-19! Who lets infected COVID-19 ppl on incoming planes?

They could face a catastrophic future even if the borders are open. Who in their right mind would spend money to travel now? Given cases are starting to spike again and we’re still bringing in the virus from overseas?

Cry me a river. We face a catastrophic future if there’s a second wave. People before profit. Need over greed.

Aviation 'expert' trying to justify his existence.

I could only guess the amount that it would cost to not only put these aircraft in moth balls , but to recommission the aircraft ready for flight ..

Don't blame the federal government for domestic troubles, blame the state premiers. wafifoprisoner
