There is no doubt the border closures across Australia are inspired by premiers and their determination to avoid political responsibility for virus infections, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.

Earlier this week the border between Australia’s two biggest states Victoria and New South Wales was closed to contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak plaguing parts of Melbourne. South Australia also announced a border closure with Victoria, and Queensland will not allow Victorians to enter the state when its borders open on Friday. “There is every chance these state border closures that we have seen on and off for months, are unconstitutional,” Mr Kenny said.

“Parts of Melbourne are a ghost town again, tower blocks are still sealed off, the residents trapped by public health orders imposed with the assistance of police, likewise there are checkpoints around the vast suburban fringe of the Victorian capital preventing people leaving to the regions. “And yet, and yet, there are hard borders too, isolating Victoria from the rest of the country.
