The Department of Tourism has tapped motorcycle riders’ groups to help boost local tourism after the easing of community quarantine conditions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.Former senator Joseph Victor Ejercito said in a radio interview Saturday that Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat spoke to him about coming up with a moto-tourism campaign to stimulate domestic tourism and economic growth. Ejercito is a rider himself.
“Ang sabi niya, who can be the best tourist guide ay motorcylce riders, kasi kung saan-saang sulok [ng bansa] kami nakakapunta, eh ,” he said in an interview over radio DWIZ. The DOT has started its talks with motorcycle and adventure groups as well as other stakeholders to craft a comprehensive moto-tourism campaign, wherein riders will promote not only famous local tourist spots but also undiscovered destinations.The DOT is pushing for domestic tourism to help revive the industry stunted by the travel restrictions imposed all over the world to due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Last month, officials said that they are planning to implement “bubble tourism” between areas within the country with minimal or no COVID-19 cases to gradually restart the tourism sector.
