Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines witnessed “improvement” in its June operations after the government eased restrictions on air travel.Strong demand was seen for routes from Manila to Puerto Princesa and Davao. Flights to and from Davao, in particular, were consistently recording high load factors during the period.
Almost 200 commercial flights were mounted, flying over 10,000 passengers to local destinations last month. The June performance has buoyed the optimism of AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla, saying the company’s “road to recovery has started.” “[T]his has kept us in good spirits knowing that we are in the midst of the aviation industry’s upturn,” he said in a statement.
“We are committed to gradually restoring our network. This month , we are glad to resume international flights, starting with Kuala Lumpur, where AirAsia’s headquarters is located,” Isla added.
