Earlier today, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar questioned whether a 'green list' should be published at all, if the advice against all non-essential foreign travel remains in place.
A spokesperson for Mr Varadkar said he believes it is wrong to send out mixed messages about international travel."But if the travel advice for countries on the green list isn't different to advice for other countries, then we would be better off not having a green list at all," he said. One view is that the current advice to people to restrict their movements for two weeks after arriving in Ireland should be removed for those countries on the green list.
He said the Tánaiste "doesn't see the point in it so which is it? Is it what you say or what he says?" Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, Mr O'Brien said the priority of the Government is on public health and the advice remains to avoid non-essential travel abroad. Chris Horn said there has been a sharp reduction in the amount of money being received by airports from 53 airlines operating in Ireland as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
