The number of asylum claims being filed in Canada continues to rise slightly despite ongoing global travel restrictions. The latest figures from the Immigration Department show 1,500 claims for refugee status were filed in Canada in June, up from 1,400 in May.

In this Aug. 7, 2017, file photo, Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers interact with migrants as they enter into Canada at an unofficial border crossing at the end of Roxham Road in Champlain, N.Y. OTTAWA -- The number of asylum claims being filed in Canada continues to rise slightly despite ongoing global travel restrictions.

Currently, Canada is turning back those who show up at unmarked border crossings, one of several measures being taken at the border in response to the pandemic. Under the agreement, which took effect in 2004, Canada and the U.S. recognize each other as safe places to seek protection. They had argued in court that when returning ineligible refugee claimants to the U.S., Canada exposes them to risks in the form of detention and other rights violations.

"In light of the court's decision and this ongoing deterioration, Human Rights First urges the Canadian government to take this opportunity to withdraw from the 'safe third country' agreement."' "In my view the Canadian government has a responsibility to act immediately to prevent further violations of our constitution and the international human rights commitments to which Canada has agreed to be bound," she said.

So we can’t visit our relatives in the US and charge Americans from holiday if here, but no problem with open borders to those who are a burden to our system. The Liberal way.

I'm no super cop but isn't that the opposite of closed borders? GTFO

Yeah it’s an apocalypse and we’re maybe doing the best in the entire continent so it makes sense. Here come the people saying let them all die.

Why would they wont to come to a racist country? That's what king Justin and his MP's call us

Block them from coming in! It is illegal!

This is good news because it will create more demand for more money from the government. This is how an economy grows people. Smh

Because we don’t have enough workers for all those jobs and our healthcare and social services aren’t stretched enough.

RCMP luggage handlers. Such a joke. Let us assist you in entering illegally.

Why are we allowing this during a pandemic?

Are they from Americans?

I thought Trudeau put a stop to this 😆

🥱🥱🥱

Somebody please explain to me how the fuck you can come from the USA and plead Asylum ,IS IT LAW THAT YOU MUST PLEAD ASYLUM IN THE FIRST COUNTRY YOU ENTER INTO WITCH WAS THE USA ...

So Trudeau told another lie

Or maybe b/c of pandemic ?

Tell it like it is, the main crossing NEVER CLOSED, NOR DID FLIGHTS FROM HOTSPOTS!
