Victoria's Deputy Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng on Thursday flagged the government was considering dumping the rule or extending the radius to 20 kilometres. Epidemiologists have also advised the health situation was safe enough for outdoor gatherings to be increased to 10 and for household bubbles to be formed.
The move comes as the state treasurer released financial figures which revealed Victoria accrued a $6.4 billion deficit, which was $4 billion higher than projected at the beginning of the year. The Australian Hotels Association released the outcome of a survey taken of their members on Friday, indicating the average small pub was losing $10,000 a week, while a larger pub was losing around $20,000 to $25,000 a week.
