Seventeen Kiwi travellers arrived in Melbourne after slipping out of Sydney on day one of the trans-Tasman travel bubble.

Seventeen Kiwi travellers who landed in Sydney have been caught entering Melbourne on day one of a travel bubble set up between NSW and New Zealand.

"The Victorian Government has made it clear to the Commonwealth that we expect NZ passengers who have not undertaken quarantine will not be permitted to board flights in Sydney bound for Melbourne."It remains unclear whether the 17 travellers have been allowed to stay in Melbourne or if they have been sent back to Sydney, where they would be required to isolate for 14 days.

"Today, we have already welcomed our first Kiwis back to Australia for a holiday. That's fantastic," he said on Friday."We say 'Kia Ora' to those Kiwis who've joined us, we hope you enjoy your holiday in New South Wales, or the ACT and we look forward to seeing more of you – tell your friends."There'll be a few Kiwis headed this way for the Bledisloe return matches here in Australia in a few weeks' time.

Airport staff greeted travellers from New Zealand with Tim Tam biscuits, gelato and sunscreen on Friday.

Deport themto NSW

IMO no problem here other than technical.

People have this mixed up. People from NSW are free to enter Victoria and do every day. These Kiwis have done just that. Whether they did it now or in a few days so what. They have cleared Federal customs and quarantine. That’s all required. Must now comply VIC rules here.

“Border Force refused to comment on the matter, directing The Age and Sydney Morning Herald to state authorities.” What does BF *do*, exactly? If not maintain and monitor our borders especially where international travellers are concerned? What is the POINT of them?!

Oh no. But the ADF.....

I don’t see why it matters? As long as they were covid negative. They won’t be able to leave so why is it an issue ?

In latest news stand with Dan morons get worked up when covid free Kiwis arrive in town.

Even in lockdown Victoria is better than NSW. Another LNP Dudd.Ton failure

Day1? The travel bubble idea didn't age well...

Wow, I thought that the NSW-Vic border is only open for the extremely essential travel. How could the airline let them check in and board the plane?

Just a thought🤔🤔 may of been returned travellers, might be Kiwi citizens which live in Australia, I am hearing that is the case for most of them. Seems the only logical thing. But we live in a world of not much logic lately, so who knows🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

HOW?

Oh ffs if they want to come to a decimated Melbourne, take the risk with covid and prop up our economy (because our government wont), let them. They have come from a country which is covid free, they arent a risk to to melb. Melb is more of a risk to them!

That's gone well then.

NSW should have stopped them from boarding a flight to Vic, yet purposely let them aboard! LNPfail Lnpcrimefamily wants Victorians to fail and have a 3rd wave

How did sydney not have processes in place?

What’s more surprising, is why would they come to the Decimated town of Melbourne.

Seriously how is this a surprise?

So......Melbourne is stopping healthy ppl from coming in!?!? Which only shows how negligent the federal government has been with its quarantine duties from the beginning of the pandemic. Contracting their constitutional responsibilities to the states should not be tolerated. They should know better. Not good enough.
