Premier Mark McGowan has called for better management of the trans-Tasman travel bubble after 23 travellers from New Zealand arrived unannounced at Perth Airport, just two days after the arrangement that excludes Western Australia was put in place.
Mr McGowan on Sunday said the 23 arrivals into Perth were unexpected and called for better management from federal government with taking in overseas travellers.“We would like further assistance from the Commonwealth, in particular about making sure those people who come on aircraft into WA we get proper manifest and proper advice so we can manage these people.”
“Those manifests would now be far more helpful in monitoring and controlling people coming from overseas who may well be COVID positive. We can’t control what the airlines do.” “This is not an ideal situation, we would prefer better management of these arrangements but this is something that has happened that is outside our control.
Opposition leader Liza Harvey accused the Premier of “playing politics with the borders” and show more compassion for stranded West Australians who want to reunite with their families in time for Christmas. “All he has to do is pick up the phone and call the Prime Minister and the cap on the number of people allowed to return to Perth would be increased.
I thought he didn’t want to be part of the commonwealth anymore. Now all of a sudden he wants help. Screw him.

McGowan controls who comes into WA not Morrison as McGowan keeps reminding us! I flew from NSW into Victoria and was not met by anyone when I arrived. If Vic wants to stop anyone coming here Andrew’s needs to have officials interview everyone when they arrive

Get rid of the state governments. Obviously using border controls for political purposes. Looking at you WA, SA and Qld. They are totally irrelevant. We are so over governed, it is ridiculous.
New Zealand must be impressed with how well Australia organised the bubble so that their people can visit the agreed states NSW NT and ACT.

The big lesson here is that yes the Kiwis are low risk but the Feds are a major disaster just waiting to happen. They signed off on a travel bubble NZ to NSW & NT only with evidence that was the case & Border Force in charge. In reality tourists travel to Vic/WA/Tas at will.
This would have been so much funnier if they had slipped into Adelaide or Victoria. 🙂
