A lawmaker representing the youth on Friday rejected the plan of the Department of Education to extend the 2020-21 school year by cutting to just 14 days the regular summer vacation for students.

In a press statement, Kabataan Partylist Rep. Sarah Elago said the proposal will only worsen the problems encountered by students under the distance learning system that was caused by the effecs of the novel coronavirus disease pandemic.

“While flexibility and assistance must be given to those who have not yet completed their requirements, we do not believe that extending the school year and shortening the summer break would address the challenge,” said Elago.
