New Zealand has announced they will open a second travel bubble in just two weeks time. But what will that mean for Aussies hoping to also visit?

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday that the start date for the bubble comes at a time where her country is in “a stronger position to prevent, detect and manage any potential COVID-19 outbreak”.

Anyone in New Zealand can travel quarantine-free to the Cook Islands, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria and immigration requirements. “This is a domestic issue for the Australian Government’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection,” the statement read. The idea of a loophole comes as the Morrison government was forced to crack down on Australians hoping to use New Zealand as a gateway to the rest of the world.

“You must spend 14 full days in New Zealand before you can travel quarantine free to Australia,” the spokesperson said.
