AISECS’ Gurnam Singh says while he understands Australia’s travel ban with India is not racially motivated there is a lot of anger on the ground among Indian communities who believe it is about discrimination.

“In Indian community right now, it’s more about that discrimination, racism, but I strongly agree it’s not about discrimination and racism,” he said.

Mr Singh told Sky News the implementation of the travel ban by Prime Minister Scott Morrison was “disheartening” for many Indians. “People are contacting us back in India and they keep telling us that why are the Australian government treating us like we don’t deserve to be in Australia?”
