As part of efforts to promote sustainable tourism amid the pandemic, the Department of Tourism is calling for stricter monitoring and implementation of waste management protocols in all tourist desti

nations in the country.

The initiative dubbed “Scubasurero: Stand up, save our reefs” bats for the preservation of marine biodiversity as well as the promotion of marine tourist destinations in Davao del Norte. Launched in 2019, the DOT’s SOS campaign intended to inspire tourists, businesses, as well as local communities to have a long-term view on tourism by protecting the country’s destinations and natural resources.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has further underscored the importance of sustainable tourism, with environmental protection as one of its major pillars,” the DOT said.
