Travel to the countries poses a "serious risk to the Australian community", the department states in its Outward Travel Restrictions Operation Directive.
With his mother now alone in India, Mr Jacob is hopeful she will be granted an exemption to travel to Australia to stay with him. He said she had been vaccinated against COVID-19."It's very easy for people who are in Australia who have their entire families here, but the lawmakers aren't considering the fact that a lot of families are spread across the world," Mr Jacob said.
Travel can also be permitted if the person is planning to go for longer than three months, has leave from their job, and can provide "compelling" evidence for why their trip is "essential".
Let them go. But its their fault if they can't get back !
Sad to miss a funeral of a loved one I know but seriously get over it people ..... so many in Melb missed funerals of loved ones last year
People living in nursing homes in australua couldn't have visitors even when they were dying. Did you care about that. I doubt it.
They should go to India if they want, as long as they don’t expect immediate repat without a clean bill of health.
We can't let them go back for one simple reason. Regardless of their good intentions, and as much as they say they don't expect to be repatriated. Once they see the disaster India is in, they'll be whining and moaning to come back (infected) and ScoMo will let them in of course.
Australia governments doing the right thing by blocking Indians in and out of country. Because Indian variants is highly contagion and super spreader. Of course living in Australia like prison and living in Indian like heaven. Why? What you earn in here, you spend it in India.
You must be desperate to get a dose of the Covid Virus
They want to go out, they want to come in. Make up your minds. Perhaps a legally binding declaration that will not allow them to cry wolf once they suddenly decide they want to come back in to Aus after insisting on leaving so badly.
Let the go , tell them it's a ONE WAY trip = no return no matter what til covid is over .
Thought they were despair to come back 😷
Yeah being safe must be terrible
Let them go and prevent them from coming back.
When are people going to get real. My partner couldn't go to USA when sister died nor could the parents who were in Singapore. This is a global pandemic not a Sunday picnic. They go then they'll demand to come back. Such reporting is rediculous.
My mother got sick last year in July, had to go to a nursing home and died in October on her own because she only had me, and I wasn't aloud to go. Nearly seven months on and I still can't go, no flights to Uruguay and you don't know if you get the exemption.
Even the non whites side the white they will be manipulated and regarded as second class. Its the white supremacy mentality ingrained over centuries of white colonisation and dominance even though their crusades have all failed in the conquest lands. Their tears not for India
What part of 'come home before it's too late' didn't you people understand, when the PM announced it 12 months ago.
Let them go , but don’t come back and make lots of complaints about it. And stop yarning to the news press about it. 😂😂😂😱😱
So many uninformed takes here on dual citizenship (which India doesn't permit) and OCI.
My mom was sick- last stage; my application to leave Australia got rejected. I could only leave Australia after mom passed away. Policymakers must have some level of EQ. If you're gonna block them from returning anyway, why can't you let them leave the country?
I feel sorry for anyone who is suffering bereavment. However in Australia during last year relatives were not even permitted to visit hospitals to see close ones before their death, & certainly could not travel attend many funerals. Wishing to travel for this reason is senseless
will they still want to go if they are all made to declare that they will NOT seek to return to Australia until such time Covid-19 crisis is over - like 2022-2023? If yes then I'd say let them go on the one way flight.🤔
Ohhh poor fucking babies you're stuck in the best country in the world poor you
You voted this Christian govt in
First they want go, complain when they can’t. Then when they get there , want to come back , more complaints. So stay here and avoid the hassle.
People are stupid and selfish.
Fuck let em go but with no guarantee on return
sorry bout that
Y. They live country stating India is hopeless and once they get citizenship they start loving India. In India they castigate India. They start getting involved in political matters U left country be happy. Y involve and be confused. MomentsAU CanadaMoments USATODAY BBCNews
All these idiots. Sick of reading about it tbh. It's a pandemic and we aren't gonna risk the lives of this Country. You wanna go, then go. No return until pandemic is over. Either that or shut your whining up ffs
Prison break and don’t return.
The leftie snowflakes will be the first ones to whinge once Australia goes back into severe lockdowns due to another outbreak because we allowed a minority to travel back and from India! Switch on, strong borders saves lives
Not just India, but hundreds of thousands of Aussies have family/partners/loved ones that live o/s and have not seen them for almost a year and a half. This is torturous.
well, when you get there don't come back.
No No No. We are migrants (not from India) and have long since decided that no matter what happens, we aren’t travelling. We know people who have lost loved ones who, have not travelled for their funerals. Sacrifices need to be made. It’s a pandemic.
I don’t understand why people cannot leave? What difference does it make to us here? Let them go as long as they quarantine when they get back.
Open air prison like in Xinjiang 🤣
Yeah go there and 1 week later cry about not being allowed back in. Can’t have it both ways .
You have got to be joking look you always have the choice to go but you just can’t come back the place is like a war zone it one of my parents was over there and had passed away I still wouldn’t go be responsible and respect the rest of the Australian community
I realize that they probably don't teach European settlement anymore because it's 'problematic' - but did people the whole First Fleet & Transportation bit?
Feels like propaganda to me .
No problem. Just formally denounce your dual citizenship & off you go Then Aust Govt has no obligations towards getting you back And if you want to eventually return well you can, when overseas visitors are allowed back too These upset people with Dual citizenship need to choose
Nz has a bill of rights to protect their citizens to have the rights to come and go from their OWN COUNTRY
Seriously 😳
This is criminal. As long as they are ready to deal with the consequences stopping someone to go overseas for family is completely wrong
It is the same if a country was a war zone, Australians would not be allowed to travel there and would be on their own if they did.
Prison? Please, it's the freest prison I've seen.
There are many, probably millions, of people across the world who have not been able to be with dying loved ones, attend weddings etc. It is a pandemic and if we want to return to some sort of stability we have to sit tight and suck it up. It hurts, but it’s reality.
Sad as this is, the problem surely is that they will want to come back and with that Covid. Is that fair to people here in Australia. It is sad that those already desperate to come home cannot and should of course be allowed back without adding more people to the queue.
My mother passed away in february in Pennsylvania. There is no specific 'Ban' on travel to the USA, but there's no way I'd travel over there. It's not worth the risk, regardless of the government's position. They're just protecting AUS citizens with this policy.
So when they can leave, they want want to come back.
Sorry but this boils my pi55! Cheeky fuckers should fuck off back to India if Oz is so bad.
You're not allowed to leave this country. It is 100% a prison.
Thought Australia was a prison.
These people need to take a deep breathe and realise this applies to all of us. They aren’t special.
Really an unnecessary article. Are you seeking out every Indian in Australia and asking them for a comment to fill up space in your paper?
This is a no win situatuon, those children unaccompanied in India are they homeless, were they sent over without a plan or left behind to fend for themselves? If that is the case we need to send emergency aircraft to collect them with questions re parental care.
How about flying to Palestine, have a 2 week stop over in the Gaza strip and then fly on to Calcutta? It’ll be a blast.
One way tickets only. Knowing the current risks they should be able to go, but they go to the back of the line to return.
Go there stay in the filthy ghetto
No. No sympathy. I have sympathy for Australians who can’t return. But not being allowed overseas is not the issue.
Hotel quarantine a massive flop and can't be scaled up to meet Australian travel demand ?
Let them go but with the knowledge they won't be allowed back into Australia until ALL Australians have been fully vaccinated & India at least have covid under control
Fly to nz and go from there
Yeah nah.
Of all the ridiculous bloody things to say! Said by people who've clearly never been inside before and taken for a ride by the media like it's supposed to matter. Immediate family health emergency aside why would you be desperate to go? Even then I'd be having second thoughts.
Those stranded in India now probably said the same thing when they left Australia for funerals. Now desperate to get back
Stupid and irresponsible article it should be obvious that you cannot and should not travel in a pandemic. Many Australians could not cross domestic borders to grieve loved ones or attend funerals last year. It is needed to secure public health safety.
No it doesn't. Fool.
