Minister of State Ossian Smyth has said while there is no guarantee that international travel will reopen on 19 July, the plan remains that people can travel abroad from that date

There is an element of risk in travelling, he said, because the rules may change and a new variant could emerge at any time.

However, he warned, "we can't guarantee that at the moment, that's what is in the plan, but looking at what has been happening in the United Kingdom with the Delta variant and the fact that the British did have to delay their full reopening by a month, there is still risk attached and no guarantee can be given about that date, but that's the current plan".

He said that from next month, those travelling within the EU can use a Digital Covid Certificate, a PCR negative test certificate issued within three days, or a certificate of recovery for those who have had Covid-19 in the past nine months. Mr Smyth said for those who are not fully vaccinated and need a PCR test certificate to travel abroad, they must be tested by a private lab at their own cost.

Independent are reporting otherwise..

That probably means Tony said no foreign travel. So stay at home. Govt will delay travel Mad yet people allowed to come in.

New unknown variant by mid July ?This junior comes across as a hack looking to get on the political stage in a hurry, at a time when SF are surging in the polls. The EU mandate is clear and , as far as I can observe , 000’s are booked to go in accordance with Digital CERT rules.

Is Ossian Smyth staging and Irexit now?

A legal obligation under EU law. But true, Irish govts do like to duck and dive around EU regulations so hard to tell if it is actually binding. A failed lawless state. And then we have to listen to the creature Ossian Smyth.

😂The fact we have signed up to it & the EU have given all member states a month to sign up & implement it suggests its happening regardless. Not something individual states can simply opt out of once signed up. You'd think he'd be aware of that. 🤦‍♂️

I must be living in a different planet 2 weeks ago traveled from New York to Dublin plane 80% full going and coming back 90% full.

Minister smytho you have done your best to frustrate this for as long as possible. What you are now saying is blatantly at odds with EU law. I will be travelling from the 19th, and will challenge any fine in court where it will never stand up.

No guarantee Wtf is he on about

If you have the EU certificate of vaccine/recover you can't either? Tired of wasting my time, others time, and money in useless PCRs

So plan but don’t plan. That’s cleared that up.

Fly from Belfast

There is a legal EU guarantee.

I have waited and waited smytho I finally booked flights to see family on July20th. I will be flying regardless of what happens at this stage. Enough is enough.

Are we not part of the EU which is fully opening travel from the 1st of July !
