'Ireland is the only European country that has made no concrete plans for the return of its events industry and venues'

A group representing people working in the night-life industry has called on the Government to present a plan outlining when music venues and nightclubs can reopen.

The group described the Government’s handling as inadequate, inflexible and lacking a basic understanding of how the industry works. They want a lifting of the ban on dancing at all live events to take effect as soon as possible and a lifting of the ban on live and loud music. They also want a grant scheme to aid the cost and installation of required systems should be established.

“The sector has struggled over strict, outdated and soul destroying regulations that have been responsible for the gradual decay and disappearance of what was a thriving industry.” He said: “I do not accept an aspiration toward having some kind of roadmap at the end of August represents any sort of coherent government policy. There should be the same level of engagement now as we have seen with the tourism and hospitality sector.
