The ongoing eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island has brought airport services to yet another stand still according to Air Traffic Control officials in La Palma.
According to a spokesperson for the AENA airport, the runway has been coated in ash and so operations cannot resume until it is cleared and safe for landing. While many have had to leave their homes, tourism officials are continuing to encourage tourists to come to the island to witness the spectacular event, and say that other parts of the island remain perfectly safe.
