Last week's announcement that Australia's travel ban will be lifted in November had many separated families rejoicing. But for temporary residents, the ordeal is far from over.

Sydney FC academy coach Mizuki Ito hasn't seen his wife of almost two years since the morning after their wedding.

Little did they know, a day before their wedding, the World Health Organization had become aware of a new virus circulating in China. Within months, the novel coronavirus had made its way to Australia and international borders were closed to ward off the threat. Under the framework, and depending on cooperation from the states, returning traveller caps will also be removed and home quarantine established for fully-vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents in place of the current supervised hotel quarantine system. But for temporary residents like Mizuki, many of whom have established lives in Australia and have been waiting months to reunite with loved ones abroad, little will change once the travel ban is lifted.

"My question is, why? I'm not just going for a holiday, I'm not going to Europe or the US, I just want to see my family. It was up and down in a couple of days."

Just fly into WA or QLD their very open to sports teams and their families. 😜

Lucky

What is his visa?

At least she’s still alive, I’ve had relatives and friends that have died, didn’t get to seem them prior or attend funerals

They can try subclass 600 visitor visa. People are flying with it but have to pay 13000$ to 14000$ 😞

That so serious

It is an ongoing disgrace that there are such heartbreaking stories like this 18 months in. And it's not isolated with 45k registered and likely 100k+ citizens & PR trapped overseas. Add in visa holders... Not to mention the callous attitude & lack of empathy from those in Aus.
