Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan on Wednesday said the COVID-19 situation in New South Wales was 'very concerning' as he announced a change to border rules.

Premier Mark McGowan announced on Wednesday the reclassification of NSW from high risk jurisdiction will take effect from 12:01am on Saturday, December 18.

"The NSW government has eased restrictions on the unvaccinated, and their Health Minister is now predicting 25,000 cases per day by the end of January. "It's important to note, arrivals from NSW were already required to do 14 days quarantine at home under current border settings," Mr McGowan said. Stream the latest news on COVID-19 with Flash. Western Australia previously classified NSW as extreme risk in late August, moving it down to high risk on November 6. "I urge all Western Australians currently in NSW with an approved G2G Pass to come home immediately, because once the reclassification takes effect on Saturday, they will not be able to do so, except for the most extraordinary circumstances."
