The “Ontario Staycation Tax Credit,” first announced in November, offers a maximum credit of $200 to individuals and $400 to families in an effort to stimulate the province’s battered tourism industry.

Ontario will soon be yours to discover — at a discount.

It’s a step in the right direction for an industry reeling from the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Tony Elenis, president of the Ontario Restaurant Hotel and Motel Association, but it’s “absolutely not enough” to get the sector back on its feet. Meanwhile, 70 per cent of businesses incurred at least $50,000 in debt to stay afloat, according to the tourism association.

“This … is $200. That’s really not going to help families in any great deal to get back out there and start enjoying Ontario,” she said.

bribe people to come to Ontario ........I'm done .......

'Stay in place, but also here's 200 dollars if you go to another town in your province'

Ontario offers tax rebates for staycations this year. It seems only fair to me that families get a tax rebate for each day the goverment didn't offer in-person school.

Lol $200

Cannot WAIT to see how many hoops must be jumped through, come tax time, in order to actually receive the tax credit. OTOH, the timing, and apparent and outright pandering to business does seem, if not suspect, then at least awkward… 🤯

Here's a thought - cancel the tax credit and give the money to every restaurant/retail employee about to have their capacity's/incomes cut by Cabinet!

Can I trade my tax credit for a booster shot? Or a couple of rapid tests? I’ve been consistently told not to go out in public unless it’s necessary so a vacation isn’t top of mind right now.

I only look forward to leaving Ontario. Not enough money to make me vacation in this crap hole province.

wow... hahaaha. $200 is not going to save an industry ravaged by govt dictators and media lapdogs. Media is as much to blame for this mess, as they are supposed to hold govt accountable, not be their voice.

fordnation is a 💩🤡

Since the feds have made it next to impossible to leave the country to have a vacation a tax credit to be forced to stay in Ontario is a small perk I suppose.

Safe that money to reinstate the rebate for purchasing electric cars!

Isn’t a staycation when you stay at home, and don’t travel anywhere

A ridiculous tax credit that will help only higher income Ontarians, meanwhile lower income Ontarians will get rent increases, and no increase in paid sick leave. 🤬 ONPoli FordAbomiNation FordFailedThePeople VoteFordOut2022 NeverVoteConservative

Very misleading headline. You have to spend A LOT to see the $200 credit.

Love how posts a tweet on a story they won't let you read 😞

I'd rather see this money going to those who can't afford to take ANY kind of vacation, because they're health care workers trying to care for us safely, or teachers trying to get access to PPE, PCRs, RATS and boosters so they can educate our children in safe conditions.

Inventor of MRNA vaccine Dr. Robert Malone speaks about the dangers of mass vaccination, and future problems that will arise. This has been removed from YouTube already, why are they trying to sensor what we hear?

fordnation Ontario Staycation Tax Credit Is that just easy way for fordnation to pocket an extra 400 bucks while hiding in Muskoka? onpoli

Where are you supposed to go when they keep shutting more and more down.

Can this be converted to two paid sick days?

First they kill small business with lockdowns, then what's left of it gets picked up by big corporations and now fordnation wants to give us $200 of tax payers money, our money so that we can give it back to his rich corporate cronies. What a scam!!!

Great idea...

Interesting that the government did this while increasing the cost for car camping at provincial parks. 2 nights at a non electric site is over $120. It’s crazy.

Reminder that pre-Covid Ford - nursing a grudge - cut funding to tourismtoronto OntarioTravel + attractions large and small. Cross border spending from the “NY border cities” was always the bigger $. When this pandemic ends Toronto will not be prepared to take advantage.

So we can spread Omicron everywhere, especially to our distant relatives and friends. And get paid for it.

Can this be applied to taking a few weeks off in hospital? Asking for a growing number of Ontarians who have more serious things on their minds.

400 doesn't even cover the night at a hotel for a family of 4

This is a waste of money....they should be offering support to the industry AND to the arts community for these shut-downs. A credit may be good idea when this is all over to encourage people to keep their money IN the province....but until then, it's more PR than policy

In actuality it is a coupon book for the 'Bacon and Egger Club™' from Timmies

Amazing! Incredible! A reel champyen my freinds ! 🤡

Only those with disposable income can take advantage of this tax credit! Not the majority of those who are the WorkingPoor! fordnation continues to throw Ontario's tax$$$ out the door with no evidence that this will have a multiplier effect on the economy!

Don't tax credits favour those who have a higher income? Ya gotta have cash to spend cash. So, another goodies for the well off...thanks Doug.
