Even an inexpensive travel camera like the EOS M50 MK II is streets ahead of the best phone camera we’ve reviewed. L&L May 6 travel special.

Canon’s travel-friendly EOS M50 MK II camera when we thought we already had an answer to this week’s question: Should you even bother packing a travel camera nowadays?

I mean, it’s already doubtful whether most of us should bother travelling with a dedicated camera, given how capable phone cameras are. To force us to travel with a charging brick, too? What on earth was Canon thinking? But then we did charge it with the brick, and we did review it, and now we’re back on the fence. The EOS M50 MK II has an APS-C sized image sensor on it, which offers many of the advantages of a professional-grade, full-frame sensor – most notably, you get lovely, shallow focus in your portraits, which phone cameras haven’t yet figured out how to fake properly – but which still allows you to travel with fairly small, lightweight lenses.
