An organisation which supports and promotes tourism in Ireland has said rising car rental prices are undermining Ireland's reputation as a good value for money destination. | More:

It said this represents a major loss for the wider tourism industry, saying 20% of all overseas tourists to Ireland rent a car and that those who do spend more time and money and are far more likely to visit rural Ireland.

It also found that car hire plays an important role in facilitating tourism in Ireland and is a highly-seasonal sector.A quick glance online shows just how expensive rental cars are. Paul Redmond, Chief Executive of from the Car Rental Council of Ireland, said that it has no data on car rental prices and comment on the matter.

The prices of hotels, holiday homes, day trips and activities in Ireland are way to high. If they keep going up it will ruin the tourist industry.

First of all ireland has never been good value for money. 1. The cost to eat out is high 2. Hotel prices ridiculous 3. Car hire crazy 4. Drink even higher

You can't undermine what you don't have, and nobody has ever said Ireland is good value for money for holidays, its much cheaper to go abroad for a week

Ripoff Ireland what else would you expect. Gouge away nothing new there

Total disgrace. There needs to be a government regulator appointed to car rental market

Good value for money Since when

Value for money me bollix, 8 euros a pint 400 euros a night for a hotel meals out costing a fortune cheaper to get out of this country.

Have u seen the prices of Irish hotels?

WHEN DID IRELAND EVER HAVE A REPUTATION AS A VALUE For MONEY DESTINATION? ARE YOU SERIOUS? WHAT'S IRELAND GOT TO OFFER? RIP OFF PRICES AT EVERY LEVEL, AWFUL WEATHER, A TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT ATTITUDE. THAT'S IRELAND FOR THE PAST 50 YEARS

price of a hotel...pint...food ...this country 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Rip off Ireland.

Joking right? Was back home to Ireland in April with my wife and 4 nights cost €2000. With flights, hotel, car rental. Price increased around 40% since last time home in 2019. Rip off Indeed.

when had Ireland this 'reputation as a good value for money destination' it's a complete rip off for ourselves never mind tourists.

The Ireland as a value for money destination ship sailed a long time ago 🙄

Nostalgia RTE? It has been a rip since 5 years into the Euro currency now we are dancing to the US-UK genocide alliance. We cannot even go out and buy cheap fuel. Yet its for sale €5-35 cent a liter in many nations! Time to end the FFG cartel the only way Ire can fix up.

Sick joke RTE? The country will stand still we cannot even afford to drive soon! Cop on start asking some real question of the FFG cartel

Car hire always more expensive here! Ireland does not have a good reputation for value for along time.... Only value is to vulturefunds reits & tax avoidance

What reputation? Seriously?

Good value for money reputation? Correction we have a reputation for ripoffireland

It’s not an Irish problem- check the prices in Scotland

Insane headline. This country rips everyone off, within and without. I can't understand why anyone would want to come here, regardless of car rental prices.

Car rental throughout Europe has gone through the roof ,not just Ireland

The politically motivated & backed soup kitchen on grafton street (and the drug addicts it attracts/concentrates into Irelands premier tourist street) isn't helping the country's image either

Rip off, in the Canary Islands it’s €200 euro for a week for a small car.

Ireland DOES NOT have a rep for being a value for money place. Who the hell is writing these articles

It’s time for the government to remove the reduced VAT and other sweeteners we offered post COVID. They don’t deserve to be supported by the tax payer

For fucks sake you'd buy a a used car and resell the thing on departure cheaper than the prices being quoted for rental. That's rip off Ireland for you...

Good value for money maybe in the eighties but not now, hotel prices are also mental

We don’t have a reputation for good value for money!

It’s not just car rental, everything is overpriced in this country. The only think that is not over priced is unskilled Labour.

Can eamon lettuce not give them free bikes at airport

we have people out working who can’t afford to rent a home , I don’t think anyone gives a bollox about the price of car rental

'Ireland's reputation as a good value for money destination' Don't be silly, this hasn't been true for a good 30 years.

It was never a good value for money destination!!

Car hire in Spain Car hire prices have soared by 40 percent since last year and many people are far from happy.8 Feb 2022

Jesus good value for money 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣rip off Ireland

Rip off Ireland. Ask the locals.

Good value for money - ah STOP

What about the price of hotels, food and drink, concert tickets etc. Car rental is not the only factor undermining good value for money here

Dublin is not a nice destination unfortunately! Dirty, dangerous, overpriced and badly served regarding transportation. It’s such a shame, there’s so much potential but no initiative to do anything!

What a great little country ☀️☀️☀️🏝🏝🏝🏝

LOL we never had that reputation!?!?

Yea, without a shadow of a doubt it will deter people from visiting Ireland. You’d want to be off your rocker to pay those type of rates to hire a car!

Good value for money lol that's gas

Have you seen the price of hotels?

Prices all across the service industry is a cause for concern. Especially accommodation, Jesus to stay in a Hotel or Guests houses is cat. They are killing the industry with staff wages the lowest than in any sector.

Swap the words 'car rental' for literally anything else.

Ireland has never been good value forL tourists. I’m surprised we still get any, to be honest.

Nobody has looked at hotel prices, then? 😏

AND the insurance is a total SCAM.

Value for money destination Compared to Davos maybe

How long ago was Ireland considered a good value for money destination? Its been notoriously expensive for the last 20+ years...

Can't recall many other instances 'Ireland' and 'value for money' being used in the same sentence.

We have a good value for money reputation Since when ?
