Passport backlog leaving travellers in limbo ottnews ottawa

Thom noted that when she visited the Service Canada office in person on Thursday, only three of the nine kiosks there were staffed.Speaking to CBC'son Friday, Karina Gould, minister of families, children and social development, said the department is responding by adding more staff.

To help manage the sudden surge, the department is also introducing a new triage system. At 7 a.m., managers will now begin meeting with clients outside Service Canada offices to determine whose travel needs are most urgent, and assign priority cases accordingly. The triage system will be implemented in Montreal, Quebec City, Gatineau, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and the Greater Toronto Area, as well as Surrey and Richmond, B.C.

Exact from comments below, offices should open at least 6 days a week and from 8am to at least 7 or 8 pm on weekday and maybe 9 to 5 or 6 on Saturdays

They should have detected a long time ago. This minister and a couple of others needs to resign for this mess

Minister, please resign. You have failed us.

We have been waiting on a passport for 3 months. Had to apply for a new birth certificate as the original lost in the system. Nobody answers phones or replies when you apply for a status update. Have waited in line twice this week just to be turned away (was 9th and then 5th).

This government is collapsing on every level. When you have corrupt in-complaisant federal government, the lack of work ethic, and ethics all together drops. CBC is largely to Blame, anyways carrying water god Trudeau, and distracting / covering up all his corruption and failures

I wasn't aware that the Minister for Families, Children and Social Development was handling the department that issues passports. Where the hell is Minister Fraser. Haven't heard a statement from him or his office during this fiasco. What is he busy doing?

Been waiting 6 months for my son's passport. They took my money and sent back all his documents but still no passport!

Vote liberals. Brought you by CBC

Been saying that at Veteran Affairs for years..IMPACT...next to nothing so don't expect any REAL improvement with passports, but they are 'working hard'..signed disabled vet.

Better late than never, I guess.

Where did all the civil servants go who were previously trained? Surely they didn't ALL retire.

The 'minister of families, children and social development ' doesn't sound Orwellian at all 🤔

About fucking time

Wow, will they all work from home lol?

Incompetence is the main reason behind this. But don’t worry Trudeau and all his ministers are busy with their summer of photo ops.

Travel document: I have tried the early morning queues, different locations and finally applied online. Eight weeks; no news.

Another failure by this federal WEF loving gov't. Meanwhile Tamara Lich sits in jail, a political prisoner. Despical seeing that real criminals i.e. rapists can get out on bail under few conditions.

Triage? Like who needs it more? I’ve worked in healthcare for 13 years without a vacation…put my name in the running for a passport… and two week cruise.

'We need bigger government', says the government. Fun fact: No government, in the world's history of governments, has ever solved one problem.

That's what was said 3 weeks ago. 🤷

Thanks for the 💩show Liberal Party of Canada👏👏👏

Why not second existing staff from other departments? Why should we pay extra for the incompetence? Fix this in-house.

FFS

It's been 12 weeks for my child's passport - I'm sure others have waited even longer.

As long as I'm not in a crowd to buy toilet paper.

Theyre still working at home like the Feds wanted to

Gov't is failing Canadians

They won't open their offices beyond 830 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Offer extended hours for a month and the backlog would vanish.

Small comfort but we are not alone with this issue.
