Cars, vans and lorries are not allowed to travel inbound between Fairview and Five Lamps to facilitate cycle route construction

A ban on cars using North Strand to reach Dublin city centre has come into force to facilitate the building of the Clontarf-to-city-centre cycle route.Private cars, vans and lorries are not permitted to travel inbound on North Strand Road between Fairview and the Five Lamps, but buses, taxis and cyclists can still use the route. The road remains open to traffic heading out of town.

However, significant numbers of car and commercial vehicle drivers illegally used the bus lane and did not stop for construction workers who asked them to divert. Traffic was light during Monday morning’s peak period, with some congestion on Fairview Strand but few tailbacks on Ballybough Road and Summerhill. However, Mr Coe conceded it was likely congestion would become an issue from September.

Leaflets advertising the restrictions had been distributed to 60,000 homes he said — which appeared to have resulted in fewer people attempting to drive into the city from the northeast.

…and replacement of 6 kilometres of a 100-year-old water main

I thought this was for the installation of a water pipe Why are doing this? As a subscriber this worries me as I require 1st class journalism, always. This is a million miles away from 1st class. It's the sort of stuff I'd expect from the Russian propaganda machine.

Irish Times very poor journalism as usual. If you write such biased muck then when you write a decent article it's meaningless. As we can't know which part of the paper is crap it's best to assume it all is. The paper is as good as the worst writing so you should be a tabloid.

Are yis not embarrassed writing this type of stuff at this stage? Click-bait journalism which ignores all the benefits and is just intended to stir people up and spread misinformation. Well done.

Busses are fine though

Lads sort your headline.. Cars have to take a minor diversion to facilitate a major upgrade of water utilities and in time a cycle lane..MINOR diversion. The world is not going to end due to this

Fucking mental the scum on DCC should be sacked their turn Dublin into a dump

Already an improvement on what was there before.

The cycle route is mentioned four times (including the strap). The €62 million watermain and bus lane works is mentioned only once - in paragraph 17 ! RM Smyllie must be turning in his grave. fail `tabloiodnews

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a stronger work from home initiative in place for a few months. It would get a handle on CoVID, prevent monkey pox spread, cut emissions and make space for road improvements.

'significant numbers of car and commercial vehicle drivers illegally used the bus lane' How is THAT not the headline?

It’s not just a cycle lane.

Campaigning journalism isn't what it used to be.
