A Rhode Island man on vacation in Wisconsin fell to his death when the drawbridge he was crossing on foot opened while he was on it.

Richard Dujardin, 77, of Providence, R.I., was about halfway across the Milwaukee bridge when it began to open,Dujardin and his wife, Rose-Marie Dujardin, were due to fly home that day but wanted to attend mass before their departure.

“The lights, bells, and arms came down at each end of the bridge, however, Richard was hard of hearing and it is thought that he didn’t notice them,” the medical examiner’s report said.tap here to see other videos from our teamOnce Dujardin realized what was happening, he tried to catch up to his wife – who had already made it to the other side – but “was not fast enough.”Article content

A witness performed CPR but Dujardin could not be revived. He died of severe head trauma, according to the medical examiner., and father of six.
