Tourism Ireland is paying over €300,000 to influencers on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube in hopes that they will sell Ireland to tourists.

The government-backed company is paying over €300,000 this year to influencers on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube in hopes that they will sell Ireland to tourists, theIt says the marketing strategy is a 'key tool' in restarting the country's tourist economy after the pandemic. An additional €221,000 has been spent on traditional media methods, such as fact-finding visits and Irish"familiarisation".

"They use a tool called Clear, which is a sort of database that allows them, they say, to confidently source the most effective influencers that they can, the ones that will bring the most engagement", he said. "They do claim that this is well researched and that they do have a firm basis for the influencers they're selecting."

However, O'Donoghue was wary of the amount spent on the strategy, given the country's current economic state."How much of this money is coming directly from the pockets of ordinary people?"

No

The money they are making from gouging on hotel prices should easily cover that

What is this stuff all about.

Wasted money again. Why pay these TALENTLESS people money to promote a country that has much less to offer tourists than other places in Europe.

Not at our fucking prices, people are going to avoid ireland like the plague, another industry fffgg have destroyed. Who wants to pay 450 euro per night for a hotel room.

Good luck with them getting a hotel room.

No! Rip off Republic is well and truly killing the tourist industry!

They TourismIreland need to put a stop to Rip Off Ireland, before trying this. Its widely publicised across social media that Ireland is price gouging tourists, with IHFcomms RAI_ie LVADublinPubs VFIpubs all playing their part in destroying Irish tourism 😡

Tourism Ireland has nasty terms and conditions which allow them to use your content without payment or credit. They may pay a small few 'influencers' but completely try to take advantage of photographers and content creators. Steer well clear.

'Just ignore the cost of everything, and the lack of public teansport outside of Dublin, and the general malaise, and everything being in a constant state of crisis, and you'll be grand like'

I really hate the term 'influencer'

Just came back from a holiday abroad when I read in an English language version of a national paper that Ireland was listed as one of the worst places to go on a holiday to. Expensive to drink, eat out and stay. Rated a miserable experience with no value to be had ripoffireland

I do it for free.
