The government is arguing that, since most of the onerous parts of the mandates have been lifted, the lawsuit challenging them is now moot and should be…

The expiration of federal travel mandates may not be purely accidental. For one, new Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has for months been hammering away at the clunky and error-prone ArriveCan app. And, perhaps equally significantly, an important legal challenge to the travel mandate has been working its way through the court system. The NP Comment newsletter from columnist Colby Cosh and NP Comment editors tackles the important topics with boldness, verve and wit.

In other words, the government’s lawyers made the extraordinary argument that what politicians say should be ignored, since such statements have no legal force. Pushing back, Presvelos argued: “My friend would like this court to believe that media statements don’t matter. They are not legal statements. not sure what type of democracy we exist in if we cannot trust the truthfulness of statements being made by government ministers.

The Rickard and Harrison case against the government has wider significance when it comes to public scrutiny and accountability. If the Federal Court agrees with the government that the case is moot, because the most onerous part of the mandates have been suspended, it would effectively legitimize the practice of restricting constitutionally protected rights, so long as the restrictions are removed before the courts have a chance to hold the government accountable.

More specifically, on the federal vaccine mandates for travel, the government’s heavy-handed approach created a conflict between two fundamental individual rights — the mobility rights of Canadians and their right to bodily autonomy. On the one hand, if you wanted to travel, you had to cede your bodily autonomy over whether to take the COVID-19 vaccine. If you asserted your bodily autonomy by not taking the vaccine, you gave up your right to mobility.

Thank you 🙏 for bringing light to this very important Charter Challenge

Something Poilievre should consider.

TravelLawsuitNotMoot This needs to go through the courts to ensure this never happens again. TrudeauDictatorship wording has me worried that they could return “Suspended” is not abolished

OK, so if Pierre is elected, every major decision he wants to make should be overseen by judicial Gatekeepers?

Safe and effective he said.

The cult is unable to admit they were lied to. Ego. Unable to reassess or self assess. Repeating lied knowingly while they harm those who can't say no.

The $cience was false. If you question it they will attack you with labels like anti-vaxx or a racist (bizarre liberal programming) Science is constantly evolving. The arrogant or profiteers attack the evolution and truth. So then their $cience is propaganda.

Canada just finally got rid of mask mandates on planes and other travel restrictionsAfter recent reports that the Canadian government was considering doing away with travel restrictions like ArriveCAN, masking on planes, cruises an... Stupid decision! The last time I was on VIA_Rail the CO2 in the car was 2500! My one consolation was everyone was masked - and no-one complained about it. Now riding the train will be a super-spreader event! Why are you praising this? Finally.. the longer these measures stay in place, the more conspiracy theorists are born.. this is more dangerous to society than the virus itself.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Travel-mandate victory could be a double-edged sword for the ToriesOnce Conservative voters have their freedom from mandates, what will they be fighting and voting for? Voters may be as fickle as Tasha claims but the economy is not exactly a strength for the Liberals either. “the Liberals have implemented (read: stolen) many of their policy ideas over the years and reaped the electoral rewards.” That is why PierrePoilievre is keeping his policy ideas close to his chest. Do you think he will let the public forget why the Covid regs were removed? I will NEVER vote Liberal. I wont forgive or forget the names, bullying, hate speech & lies. Trudeau says he supports US women’s right to choose & Iranian women while he segregate & calls Canadian women names for wanting the same freedom of choices. TrudeauMustGo cdnpoli
