Dublin City Council's Active Travel Network promises to increase joined-up cycling, walking and wheeling routes from a current total of 10 kilometres to 210 kilometres within nine years.

There will be an additional 90 kilometres of Active Travel infrastructure when the Bus Connects project is complete.

It promises the infrastructure will be of a high standard with proper segregation from motor traffic."The funding is in place, the team is in place and they're two very important prerequisites to ensure successful delivery," he said. The proposed temporary cycle route along Strand Road at Sandymount was abandoned after it was successfully challenged by residents in the High Court.

Widening footpaths and building segregated cycle routes will mean taking road space from motor vehicles and taking away some parking spaces."Particularly when we're taking out parking outside shops and businesses. I can't deny that can have an adverse impact on those businesses," he said. "We're providing infrastructure that will enable you to play your part to reduce your carbon footprint," he said.

Taking up to 9 years to deliver cycle lanes is not very ambitious

Let's face it, nobody wants to look at the ass crack of some MAMIL from their Range Rover. They need less cycle lanes and more car lanes, flawless plan if you ask me.

I think we should consider banning cyclists from Dublin city. Tell them to stick to the parks and greenways on weekends. No-one wants to accept that Dublin is not suitable for cyclists though (it is). They are a bloody nuisance too.

' our climate is changing faster than we thought'.The greens make these idiotic statements and expect everyone to nod in agreement. Can anyone give me one example of how our climate is changing and secondly can this supposed change be associated with human activities No evidence

Surely there are already more than 10km of so termed ‘walking routes’ i.e. pavements in Dublin City/County as things now stand?
