'It was just sheer disappointment.'

“I love the beach. If I’m going on vacation it has to have a beach that's for sure," the Puslinch, Ont. resident told CTV News Toronto.So in August, Weller and her family booked a trip to Cancun, Mexico.

She explained that the smell of the seaweed was overpowering like rotten eggs and it covered the entire length of their resort’s beach area.“I thought, is this going to be cleaned up? Is this what we are going to be faced with all week?" said Weller, who added “no one seemed to be doing anything about it.”Weller booked her holiday through WestJet Vacations and said she told WesJet that customers should have been warned in advance about the seaweed situation.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario said using a registered travel agent can help you get more information if you're concerned about piles of seaweed on the beach.

If she would have done some research she would know when it is sargassum season in Mexico. This isn’t new. It’s been going on for years and is particularly bad during the summer months.
