The yellow warning, for snow and ice, is active between 5pm on Monday and 10am on Tuesday . The whole of Lancashire is covered by the alert.As a result of the conditions, some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times expected. They may also be injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
A spokesperson for Met Office said: "An area of rain will turn to sleet and snow from the north, initially over Scotland, and then over northern England during Monday evening. Accumulating snow will mostly be above 200-300 m, but possibly to lower levels in Scotland for a time, with 2-5 cm in places.
"Sleet and snow clearing southeastwards overnight into Tuesday, with temperatures then falling and ice forming, particularly on untreated surfaces."
