No. Just more regulations. And more fees.Where will the goughing end. We work to pay fees to use what we bought. One tax One time. The end

If you run short term rentals as advised, it shouldn't affect you. If u want to point fingers, point at ppl not following rules to begin with

No. It's just another way to collect a few bucks from the end user

Government is slowly taking away all civil liberties only to sell them back to you in the form of a permit.

No

100 percent

Is the newly appointed chair of hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador an owner/operator of a Hotel here in Newfoundland? Isn’t there a conflict of interest there? CBCNL

People renting a room or an apartment aren't the problem. Its the people sitting on vacant properties, while there's a housing crisis in Canada, who are.

No by

Yes

As usual it’s just another way for government to make money while screwing the public out of a cheap place to stay for a night or 2

No they can just pay with cash under the table, it's not like the government is going to come to my house

Where do people get the idea that registration will mean more tax. Paying tax on income has never changed. Even if someone pays you $100 to mow their lawn you’re *supposed* to pay tax on it. There is a record of bookings through AirBnB et al. and your bank account shows /1

Yes

Regulation is needed Ive cleaned both rentals & air b&bs Air b&b is more money less mess, it makes sense but it cant be ignored that air b&bs add to the rental crisis No one should be sleeping in a tent bc they cant find a rental when theres literally 100s of air b&bs in the city

For all those saying this is all because of the Liberal government, income has always been taxed. Rental income is no different.

Yes.

No

VOCM why not be concerned about the cost of living in the news instead of doing news on them liberal politicians

In principle not a bad thing - good to make sure people aren't renting fire traps. But government being what it is ... I can only imagine where it will end. Hopefully not.

No. It'll punish low income Newfoundlanders while befitting a bunch of businesses. We can barely survive now.

All the long term rentals that are under the table in NL, this is only a joke.

Imagine the nerve of people trying to provide a service and actually be able to make a little money from it without making sure the government has a $ay.

Register ? Yes if the government is then going to make sure standards are kept up for guests and the homeowners in the vicinity of the airBNB. Not if this is just a way for the government to leech money from other peoples' hard work and initiative.

Government oversight is out of control. This is going to hurt a lot of business.

Govt just wants a bigger slice of that pie for their backpockets

There's only one reason someone wouldn't..

People rent unregistered apartments all the time. Always have. Will there be a hiring of enforcement staff? So in the end...many will not obey the rules...thats is the smaller scale accommodations such as basement apartments. The shortage of long term rentals. Will this help?

Yes

No. It’s just another $$ grab by the government!

Government needs to butt out of every single thing people do!!

Liberals otherwise known as perfesional tax grabbers. They have a knack for stripping people of money with taxes and fees

Shhh. Who’s going to know

Yes.

Just gotta Wonder if this isn't their way of making sure they get their share of the pie from taxes to licenses and permits so if I got a spare room in my home I can't rent it unless I have everything?

Registration isn't the issue. It is the extremely high compliance measures. Short term rentals in spaces located in rural NL will not be able to comply to the same standards as big hotels will. This is regulation gone wild.

Absolutely as a tourist operator myself we have to make sure everything is up to standards with govt and town we live in, and pay business taxes. If your going to rent your home as a business then do the right steps for safety and accessibility

Yes, as long as ya don't tax them and come up with more fees for them to pass on to customers.

Liberals micromanaging and over stepping their bounds again. Heaven forbid someone make a dollar they don’t know about or something. More rules and regulations

When has more government regulations ever helped… We want to incentivize people to get involved with tourism in the province not create additional roadblocks.

Short-term rentals in a community are a malignant cancer. It takes much needed long-term housing off the market. Problematic in many ways...especially for a province like Newfoundland. airbnb HousingCrisis Newfoundland rentals

Just what we need is more government involvement into our daily lives. Now they want to dictate what you can do in your private home.

Income is income! Most times anyone that is renting in this way have enough to counter any balance owing at the end of the year anyway. Register like other rental does, why is this way of renting not considered the same. Fair is Fair. You want to be in the business tow the line.

Nope, government shouldn’t have their greasy paws into it. Just wait and see how bad they will mess up the Windmill projects.

Yes, as long as this is not a money grab. Having to register will ensure we are offering a quality product for tourists. This improves our image as a go to destination for people wanting to visit our beautiful island.

Yes

Yes

Yes they should, to many people in this province got there side Hussle and think they shouldn't be taxed for it. But are the first GD ones to complain when something goes up. Tax em all..

Yes indeed. In the end I believes it’s a protective measure for both the client and the building owner.

Guaranteed if they want people to register….. there will be people processing at gov’t,which translates to taxes.

Absolutely not. If I choose to rent my home, cabin or whatever, it’s none of the government’s business and they can pack right off!!

Yes but not to tax the death out of them

Total BS.. Air BNB's have been going for years now, and not many people have a bad experience. Government AS USUAL, want a piece of the pie !!

Sure, but only because people who already have money to burn are buying properties and using them for this reason which in turn is pricing others out of the market.

No. Government overreach and control is never good.

Just another tax grab for libs

Yes. These rentals need standards if you're running a business

No. Why should govt decide what you do with your properties! Govt is really overreaching on every aspect of our daily lives. Its your typical Liberal money grab.
