The Mallorca Tourism Foundation alongside its country’s government and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has hosted the second edition of the Sustainable Destinations Summit (SDS) attended by leading experts, organisations and companies.

Mallorca is an Island located off the coast of Spain, east of Ibiza and is part of the Balearic Islands.

Discussions highlighted the interdependence of tourism on natural and cultural resources and the potential mutual benefits, while also providing unique first hand perspectives. In her keynote address, UNWTO Executive Director Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic emphasised the vital transition of the sector into a force for good that has a positive impact on the Sustainable Development Agenda and shared global challenges. “If managed well, tourism can be an agent for change, but such a transition towards a green, regenerative and nature-positive tourism sector is needed and can be achieved in a collaborative manner,” she said.

The Mallorca government, through its Tourism Foundation and the Sustainable Tourism Observatory, has established a public-private cooperative network across the island and works closely with UNWTO to advance shared goals.
