Leo Varadkar said that Government is working to address the potential €1bn impact of using hotel beds as refugee accommodation the on the tourism industry

The Government and Fáilte Ireland are working on proposals to address the potential €1 billion impact on Ireland’s tourism industry from the number of hotel beds being used to house refugees, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said.

The issue was raised the Dáil on Tuesday by Carol Nolan, the Independent TD, who flagged the difficulties facing non-accommodation tourist businesses, such as restaurants and attractions, this summer due hotel bed spaces being taken up by refugees.
