New Zealand's flagship airline will launch the iconic bunkbed design to long-haul flights next year in a move marking the first-ever inclusion of luxury features to economy class travel.

The airline revealed details around its Skynest on Wednesday, a modern in-flight design featuring double decker sleeping pods.

Each pod will be all-equipped with comfort amenities including a full set of linen, ear plugs, a reading light, power outlets, ventilation ducts, and soothing lighting designed for rest. Each pod will come with a separate seatbelt to ensure passengers can fasten them and stay in the pod should the seat belt sign come on during turbulence.

"Skynest is the latest example, and we're proud to be leading the way with this world-first cabin feature." Skynest will be launched on ultra-long-haul flights, commencing on the popular Auckland-New York and Auckland-Chicago routes from 2024.
