African leaders from the regional bloc made the reassurance on day three of the Travel Indaba in Durban on Wednesday.

DURBAN - Member states in the Southern African Development Community have reaffirmed plans to boost tourism in the region despite political instability in parts of the African continent.Officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo are among those worried about the impact of the insurgency in the eastern part of that country.

Botswana’s Moreri Mabote admits more needs to be done to allay concerns for leisure and business tourists planning trips to the SADC region. “Our region has always recognised tourism, it’s one of those key industries. It creates jobs for our youth and women. It assists our countries in terms of creating the necessary GDP to transform the economies of SADC.”
