After a “suspicious package” was found at the San Francisco International Airport early Sunday afternoon, a terminal was evacuated, flights were diverted, and passengers were left in the dark until police cleared the area three hours later.
As of 2:40 p.m., the area was being re-opened and regular operations were being resumed, according to the San Francisco Police Department. But throughout the airport, passengers were reeling from a lack of information. “It would be really great to the 1000’s of passengers if you’d make some sort of announcement, post something on a board or ANYTHING other than letting people wander around in herds with no info about their flights,”Officials with the airport said the Terminal 2 food court and D gate areas were being cleared shortly before 1 p.m. “out of an abundance of caution.” At least two flights were diverted to the San Jose International Airport, while many others were delayed.
“Thousands of people are crowded into one area and are getting anxious. Updates need to be given. This is absolutely unacceptable,”Dave on Twitter: “@flySFO Chaos https://t.co/hvrCQF9iU8” / Twitter
