Rishi Sunak has said asylum seekers will have to share hotel rooms as part of new government measures

Thousands of asylum seekers living in hotel accommodation will be made to share rooms 'where appropriate',The prime minister announced the measure on Tuesday along with the addition of two more ships which will each house hundreds of people awaiting the outcome of their claims.

He said 11,500 new places had been found in existing hotels, suggesting that up to 23,000 asylum seekers - a quarter of the UK total - will no longer have private spaces, depending on room configurations.
