A deluge of complaints against leading budget carrier Cebu Pacific Airways , involving flight cancelations and overbooking, prompted the Senate to launch an inquiry last week.
Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Risa Hontiveros admonished the carriers to be more responsible in handling the current global shortage in airplane spare parts. “Do not overbook in the middle of a supply chain problem,” she said. Noting that the complaints of passengers are not limited to Cebu Pacific, Poe said the airlines alone should not “take the brunt of the passengers’ complaints. The airport and the policies of the DOTr should also be scrutinized—whether they are also part of the problem.”
Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez on Wednesday urged Congress to suspend Cebu Pacific’s legislative franchise as punishment for its “lousy service.” Even if it was true that there is a global spare parts shortage and maintenance issue, he said, “that’s their own lookout. The public should not be made to suffer for their inefficiency.”
