An animal refuge says the £50 fee for travel to Sheffield city centre is 'demotivating'.

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary had to pay a £50 clean air charge to take ponies Philomena and Chester to a fundraising eventA charity has hit out at Sheffield's clean air zone after being charged to travel to a fundraiser.

Taxis, vans, motorhomes, buses, coaches and lorries which do not meet emissions standards are subject to charges of either £10 or £50 a day, depending on their size, to enter the city centre. The North Anston-based charity, which rescues and rehomes animals across South Yorkshire, receives no government funding and relies on donations to survive, Ms Connelly said."At a time where every penny counts, that £50 could do a lot for a charity."
